FSSAI asks edible oil manufacturers to make small packs
New Delhi, Apr 18 (KNN) The food regulatory body - Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has asked the edible oil manufacturers to bring out their products in small size packets. This is being done with the aim of making it possible for the daily wagers and rural buyers to afford these products.
Ashish Bahuguna, Chairman, FSSAI, said that for the daily wagers and people from lower income group, it is difficult to afford oil packages of larger quantities
He further said that the regulator mandates that edible oils should be sold in packaged form. But as of now in many villages’ these oils are being sold in smaller quantities from opened packs.
The Authority is in the process of facilitating manufactures to reduce the packet sizes by imposing lesser duty rates on the packages of smaller sizes. (KNN/ DA)
