Govt to lay out strategy for bamboo sector, doubling the income on agenda

New Delhi, Dec 27 (KNN) Eyeing at facilitating impetus to the bamboo sector in the country, the government Is looking to come up with a roadmap to double the income of farmers involved in the sector, Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Giriraj Singh informed.
Singh in a tweet said that bamboo being an important produce for livelihood, especially for certain geographical regions such as North-east is to be in focus for the government.
Listing the concerns that surrounded the bamboo sector in the country, the Minister informed that bamboo sector remained plagued due to restrictive regulations over permissions.
Also export restrictions and multiple fees on products hampered the sector.
Highlighting the initiatives taken by the government in the past year, NDA’s ordinance to amend Indian Forest Act 1927 was mentioned. The government has been taking steps to encourage bamboo plantation and also promoting free movement of bamboo products.
