New Delhi, Oct 30 (KNN) Highlighting the success of the Khadi and handloom sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the recent sales trends indicate that the sales of Khadi has increased by over 90 per cent in comparison to the sales of the previous year.

PM Narendra Modi made these remarks in his address to the nation on Mann Ki Baat.

The Prime Minister informed that on the eve of Dhanteras this year, the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan store in the national capital witnessed a record sale of over one crore twenty lakh rupees.

PM Modi said “You will be glad to know that on the 17th of this month on the day of Dhanteras, the Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan store in Delhi witnessed a record sale of Rupees one crore, twenty lakhs. You too must be feeling happy with a sense of satisfaction at this mega sale in just one Khadi & Handloom store”.

Also the sales of Khadi gift coupon recorded a high of 680 per cent rise during Diwali, the Prime Minister informed

The Prime Minister said that with the increased sales, the small-scale weaver working on handlooms in the Khadi sector must have felt the sense of encouragement.

The PM gave a new call for the fabric saying its Khadi for transformation now.

“After Khadi for nation and Khadi for fashion now, it is becoming Khadi for transformation. Khadi and handloom have transformed the lives of the poorest of the poor and are emerging as a powerful means of empowering them” the PM added. (With PIB Inputs) (KNN/DA)
