Proposed Spice Parks for Telangana gets govt’s nod, Industry to benefit

New Delhi, Aug 2 (KNN) Responding to the proposal made by the State Government of Telangana requesting setting up of a spice park in the Nizamabad region, the central government has approved the proposal, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed Rajya Sabha.

The Minister said that the Central government is willing to extend all technical support to set up the park on the condition that the State government provides for lands and funds.

Sitharaman also informed that the central government will be establishing a Spice Development Agency (SDA) for the state. Tis agency will function with its headquarters at Warangal. The prime focus of the SDA would be to implement the government’s program in research, production as well as quality improvement.

Also the agency will explore and channelize export of spices from the park to rest of the county and the world.

Sitharaman added that the government has been implementing several programs for the spice farmers and industry, especially the chilli and turmeric sectors.

Also the Spice Board under the Commerce and Industry Ministry is implementing the Export Oriented Production, Export Development & Promotion of Spices scheme that aims at  developing infrastructure for common processing facilities in spice parks. (KNN/ DA)
