New Delhi, Aug 5 (KNN) In a bid to accelerate growth of the textile industry comprising of over 90 per cent Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs),  Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO) has proposed constituting new textile policy and textile promotion board to the Tamil Nadu government.

Talking to KNN, K Unnikrishnan, Joint Deputy Director General of Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO) informed about the latest development.

He said that though the textile sector is doing fine, still there is a huge potential that needs to be explored.

Citing the issues that surround the MSMEs in the region, He informed that there is a problem with the clearance mechanism in the state. It takes a lot of time to get the necessary clearance for starting the unit.

“The prime reason for the delay is lack of coordination between different departments; the government must introduce new textile policy to address these gaps”.

Unnikrishnan further said that his association has also proposed setting up of a technical textile cluster to facilitate value addition into the sector.

With regard to the environmental concerns, he added that the new textile policy must provide assistance to the textile MSMEs to be able to go for an environment friendly approach.

Stressing upon the need of marketing mechanism, Unnikrishnan informed that the proposal has requested the state government to establish a marketing support system for the textile MSMEs so that the products made by the sector can be exported to different states and also across the globe.

Responding to the proposal, the State government assured that it is in the process of formulating the new framework and  the new policy is likely to be announced by next month. (KNN/ DA)
