J&K MSMEs facing difficulty in opening bank accounts of workers; urge govt to allow paying wages in cash

Jammu, Dec 29 (KNN) At a time when the government is pushing for cashless economy and digitization, several banks in Jammu are refusing to open bank accounts of industrial workers who do not have KYC despite employment certificate.

The members of Bari Brahmana Industries Association held a meeting to discuss issues being faced by the entrepreneurs in opening of bank accounts of the industrial workers for making payments of wages.

During the course of discussions, it was observed that a number of banks are refusing for the opening of Bank Accounts of the industrial workers who do not have the KYC in spite of the Employment Certificate issued by the Employers resulting the Unit Holders have no option but to make the cash payment as wages to the workers to run their units.

Moreover, the casual migrant workers are also not willing to open bank accounts keeping in mind the literacy level to avoid frauds in respect of operating of their accounts under the Digital Mode for cash withdrawal from the banks resulting it is not possible for industrial units to shift on 100% payment by Cheques for making payments of wages to Industrial workers.

BBIA has requested Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and State Industries & Commerce Minister Chander Parkash to intervene into the matter and allow the MSME Sector of J&K to pay wages by cash up to Rs. 15000/- to the workers engaged in the manufacturing process which will provide relief to the unit holders to engage the migrant workers on regular basis.
