Mysuru, Sep 5 (KNN) Karnataka Government is planning to  set up a combined effluent treatment plant (CETP) at the silk unit factory of Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Limited (KSIC) in Mysuru.

The CETP of capacity 100 KLD would be set up at the silk unit on turn-key basis.

In this regards, KSIC has invited bids from manufacturers for construction, supply, installation and commissioning of CETP.

The treatment plant would remove chemicals present in the waste water generated from the factory every day.

To expand the reach of the famed Mysore Silk saris, the KSIC had earlier this year proposed to open new outlets within and outside the State.

Karnataka contributes about 70 per cent of India’s mulberry silk. And, this silk is produced in Mysore district. It was initiated during the reign of Tipu Sultan. The silk received the GI status in 2005.
