Banks asked to conduct awareness campaigns about PMJDY

New Delhi, Nov 14 (KNN)  Banks have been asked to carry out Information and Education Campaigns (IEC) to disseminate information and awareness among the masses about Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).

This was stated by Secretary to Government of India, Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Hasmukh Adhia while reviewing the progress in implementation of PMJDY with State Level Banking Committees (SLBC) Conveners of all the States here today.

During the meeting it was reported that the States of Kerala and Goa, Union Territories of Chandigarh, Puducherry and Lakshadweep and districts of Porbandar, Mehasana, Gandhi Nagar in Gujarat have been declared as 100 per cent saturated in terms of coverage of all households with at least one bank account as on November-10.

Further, 7.24 crore accounts have opened under PMJDY of which 4.29 crore in the rural areas and 2.95 crore in the urban areas; and Rupay Cards were issued in case of 3.97 crore accounts, according to an official release.

The review meeting emphasized the need for involvement of State Government Machinery for successful implementation of PMJDY. 

The Department of Financial Services has been regularly emphasizing the early issuance of RuPay Debit Cards, e-KYC based account opening, Aadhaar Seeding, Financial Literacy and it was reported that 83 per cent of the survey Work has been completed and banks have been asked to complete the remaining work by November-30.

Further, in order to incentivize bankers, a scheme for rewards for the bankers has been framed and communicated to them. 

Banks have also been asked to be in preparedness for modified DBTL Scheme proposed to be launched on November-15, the release said.  (KNN/ES)
