CAI lowers cotton crop estimation for 2021-22 by 5 lakh bales

New Delhi, Feb 28 (KNN) The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has reduced the cotton crop estimation by 5 lakh bales in its January estimate of the cotton crop for the season 2021-22 beginning October 1 last year.

For October 2021-January 2022, the total cotton supply is estimated at 272.20 lakh bales of 170 kg each (289.21 lakh running bales of 160 kg each).

The supply volume comprises arrivals of 192.20 lakh bales of 170 kg each (204.21 lakh running bales of 160 kg each), imports of 5 lakh bales of 170 kg each (5.31 lakh running bales of 160 kg each) and the opening stock estimated at 75 lakh bales of 170 kg each (79.69 lakh running bales of 160 kg each) at the beginning of the season.

During that period, CAI has estimated it at 114 lakh bales of 170 kg each (121.13 lakh running bales of 160 kg each), while export shipments up to 31st January this year are estimated at 25 lakh bales of 170 kg each (26.56 lakh running bales of 160 kg each).

The association has estimated the total cotton supply till the end of the cotton season 2021-22 at 433.13 lakh bales of 170 kg each (460.20 lakh running bales of 160 kg each).

The exports for the season have now been estimated at 45 lakh bales of 170 kg each (47.81 lakh running bales of 160 kg each).

However the estimate of cotton Imports is at the same estimation done in January as it has been maintained at 15 lakh bales of 170 kg each (15.94 lakh running bales of 160 kg each).  (KNN Bureau)
