CAIT calls for Bharat Bandh tomorrow against GST regime
New Delhi, Feb 25 (KNN) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has called for Bharat Bandh on February 26 i.e tomorrow in a protest against the "draconian" rules of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
According to a CAIT statement issued earlier, all commercial markets across the country will remain closed on tomorrow to mark the protest. It said that over 40,000 traders' associations across India would back tomorrow's Bandh.
There are also plans for holding dharnas nationwide in 1,500 places.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the organisation called for setting up a central working group comprising senior officials, CAIT representatives and independent tax experts to review the GST structure.
CAIT also contends that major e-tailers have vitiated Indian e commerce by "continuously and openly violating the FDI policy, law and rules without any fear of law".
As examples, CAIT cites predatory pricing, deep discounting, loss funding, controlling inventory and sale of branded products.
