CBDT extends date of Aadhar-Pan Linkage till June 30

New Delhi, Mar 28 (KNN) The deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar has further been extended till June 30, 2018.

Linking PAN card with Aadhar card which is mandatory for all the Pan Card holders. Earlier, the deadline to do so was March 31, 2018.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking for filing IT returns is being extended after "consideration of the matter".

This is a fourth extension given to individuals by the government to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their biometric ID (Aadhaar)

The order came in light in the backdrop of Supreme Court, earlier this month, directing extension from March 31 to June 30 for linking Aadhaar with various other services.

The extension in the deadline has been ordered by the apex court till the five-judge constitution bench delivers its judgment on petitions filed against the validity of the biometric scheme and the enabling law.

Section 139 AA (2) of the Income Tax Act says that every person having PAN as on July 1, 2017, and eligible to obtain Aadhaar, must intimate his Aadhaar number to the tax authorities. (KNN/YV)
