Digital signatures to make Patent filings easier for the MSMEs

New Delhi, Mar 20 (KNN): Online patent filing system has been made user friendly and simple as it includes new features like digital signature, frequently asked questions, troubleshooting and dual way login facilities.

In addition to the existing online filing of applications with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), the new system enables subsequent filing of the prescribed forms and other documents along with the prescribed fees for all the procedures, according to officials in the Industry Ministry.

The new system is expected to increase the efficiency and productivity of the Patent office in terms of processing of applications.

The digital signatures in the Patent applications will make the procedures easier for the users particularly for the micro, small and medium enterprises.

In order to make it easier and provide necessary information about the new system to the public, public relations officers are available in each patent office.
The information is also available in the official website of the CGPDTM.

According to annual reports 2010-11 of CGPDTM, the number of applications for patents filed in 2010-11 was 39, 400 whereas in 2009-10 the figure was 34, 287 which is an increase of about 15 per cent.

The number of applications filed by Indian applicants was 8, 062 which shows a healthy growth compared to the previous year, where in the corresponding number was 7, 044. The number of applications filed by Indian applicants is about 20. 46 per cent of the total number of applications filed during the reporting year.
CGPDTM has launched the comprehensive online patent filing system with effect from December 15, 2012. (KNN)
