New Delhi, Feb 8 (KNN) With the Union Budget to come up in less than a month's time now, people from different sector are coming out with their speculations and expectations.

KNN spoke to Economist VN Suri who clearly said that the budget should not be expected to be a “populist” one.

Suri, a renowned Economist, said that, “Don’t expect that it is going to be a populist budget. The government has to stick on public spending for fiscal deficit.”

He said that Industries can see the deduction in corporate taxes which has been their pending demand.

“The industry is going through a bad phase when as exports are declining,” he said.

Talking about the specific sectors concerning the MSMEs, he said, “There are many things where duties can be increased like on Tobacco products.”

Government is fully focused on fiscal deficit, he said.

A declining GDP growth rate in nominal terms has already made difficult the government's task of reining in the fiscal deficit at 3.9% of GDP for 2015-16. (KNN Bureau)
