E-Way bill from April 1, MSME traders and transporters gearing up for the new system

New Delhi, Mar 31 (KNN) To ensure transportation process of goods act in accordance with the GST Law and to track movement of goods and check tax evasion, the most awaited E-way bill is going to implement from tomorrow i.e April 1st 2018.

According to this bill, it is mandatory for the traders and transporters to carry an electronic-way bill from April 1 for inter-state movement of goods worth over 50,000.

Talking to KNN, Sunil Vaish, President of Indian Industries Association (IIA) said “E-way bill is a part of GST and its implementation for inter-state movement of goods had to happen.”

He further, said “government will examine the e-way bill system for inter-state movement of goods for 15 days and then e-way bill for intra-state movement of goods would be introduced in phases state-wise.”

In this regard, he said that the matter of concern is how it going to impact intra-state movement of goods.

“Let’s hope this system will work properly”, he added.

Further, Uma Shanker, Secretary of KASSIA told the KNN, that traders are already aware about this and they might have prepared themselves now for this rollout.

He said that e-way is not new for traders as it is already implemented in the Karnataka state for both inter-state and intra state movement of goods.

Further he added that it is mandatory for those traders and transporters whose goods value is more than 50,000, thus it will not impact the small traders.

With the digital revolution in India, the generation of electronic bills will not create a trouble for traders; only thing is that the system needs to work properly, he added.

Talking to media, Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said, "I'm not too sure whether traders, dealers and transporters are still ready and I would like to appeal to them to register themselves on the e-way bill portal as early as possible.”

He further added that the e-way bill for intra-state movement of goods would be launched two weeks after the inter-state roll out and will announce the schedule at least three days in advance, but not immediately because we want to observe how the e-way bill portal functions for inter-state movement of goods.
