EAC-PM to meet today, macro economy-growth on the agenda

New Delhi, Oct 11 (KNN) Eyeing at exploring new roadmap for the economy, the first meeting of the newly constituted Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) will be held today at NITI Aayog.

The Economic Advisory Council comprising of economists and experts including  Dr. Bibek Debroy, Member, NITI Aayog as the Chairman, Ratan P. Watal, Principal Adviser, NITI Aayog as Member Secretary and Dr. Surjit Bhalla, Dr. Rathin Roy and Dr. Ashima Goyal as part time members was earlier set up by the approval of the PM.

The Council is constituted with the primary aim to analyze all critical issue relating to the economy. Also issues of macro-economic importance are to be a part of the mechanism.

The Council is expected to address issues of emergent importance and engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

The council comes as a step in the aftermath of the country’s slowed 3-year low GDP in the June quarter. GDP slowed to 5.7 per cent in the April-June period from 6.1 per cent in the preceding quarter, following which different stakeholders as well as government officials have raised concerns. (With PIB inputs) (KNN/DA)
