Election 2019: Congress party committed to GST 2.0, a single GST: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Apr 26 (KNN) In the race for general elections, where on one hand Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has promised to bring in lower tax rates in the next tenure if voted to power, the Congress Party on the other hand is committed to simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) by introducing a single tax slab and reducing the number of tax filings from 12 to four in a financial year.

In a recent tweet along with the short video, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said, “Gabbar Singh Tax (GST) and Demonetization destroyed crores of jobs causing tremendous pain and badly damaging our economy. The Congress Party is committed to GST 2.0 - a single GST, with simple reporting.”

Pitching the party’s version of GST as ‘2.0’, Gandhi tweeted a 30-second video clip highlighting the alleged difficulties faced by small business owners with the indirect tax reform that had come in effect in 2017.

In a manifesto released earlier this month, Gandhi promised to radically simplify the GST regime with a single moderate rate of tax.

Besides this, he made further promises to boost growth of the manufacturing sector, particularly of MSMEs. (KNN/YV)
