Examine ‘White Paper’ on e-commerce by CAIT: Piyush Goyal to DPIIT

New Delhi, Mar 22 (KNN) Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has directed the senior officials of DPIIT and Consumer Affairs Ministry to study the White Paper by Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) consisting recommendations regarding the national e-commerce policy.

He also agreed that mandatory registration of GST for selling goods on e-commerce portals is a roadblock for small businesses and assured CAIT that he will surely take up the matter with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

A delegation of CAIT led by its Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal presented its White Paper on e-commerce to Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday.

CAIT urged him to roll out e-commerce policy and form a Regulatory Authority to regulate and monitor the e-commerce trade of India.

While talking to the trade delegation he said that e-commerce sector is on priority of the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several ministries which are related with e-commerce are deliberating on the draft of e-commerce policy and as soon as the draft is discussed at the level of the Government, the same will be put in public domain.

He also informed that much work has also been done on National Retail Policy.

On suggestion of review of multiple laws governing the trade and applicability of one license in place of several licenses, he advised the officials to draw a list of such laws and licenses. (KNN Bureau)
