Factory output shows poor growth

New Delhi, Oct 11 (KNN)  Under the shadow of economic slowdown, the industrial production showed a dismal performance growing by a meagre 0.6 per cent during August from a year ago with as many as eight segments still remaining in the negative zone.
 
For the cumulative April-August period as well, the index of industrial production (IIP) expanded by just 0.1 per cent, according to an official notification.
 
The segments showing positive growth in the manufacturing sector were electrical machinery and apparatus, wearing apparel and dressing and dyeing of fur and tobacco products.
 
Those showing negative growth were Radio, TV and communication equipment and apparatus; Furniture; manufacturing and machinery and equipment.
 
IIP has compiled using data received from 16 source agencies viz. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP); Indian Bureau of Mines; Central Electricity Authority; Joint Plant Committee; Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas; Office of Textile Commissioner; Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals; Directorate of Sugar; Department of Fertilizers; Directorate of Vanaspati, Vegetable Oils and Fats; Tea Board; Office of Jute Commissioner; Office of Coal Controller; Railway Board; Office of Salt Commissioner and Coffee Board.  (KNN/ES)
