Fin Min announces 3 academics to the monetary policy committee

New Delhi, Sep 23 (KNN) Ahead of the policy review on October 4, the government on Thursday has appointed three members to the monetary policy committee (MPC). These three members along with the Reserve Bank of India nominated other three members would decide on the interest rates.

The  three economists who have been appointed for four years to the panel are - Chetan Ghate, associate professor at Indian Statistical Institute; Pami Dua, director, Delhi School of Economics; and Ravindra H Dholakia, professor of economics at I Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.

The other two members from the central bank apart from RBI Governor Urijit Patel are R Gandhi, deputy governor in charge of monetary policy, and executive director Michael Patra.

The government nominees will have a four-year term "or until further orders, whichever is earlier", the finance ministry said, announcing the appointments on Thursday. (KNN Bureau)
