New Delhi, Jan 5 (KNN) The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figure of the Indian economy touched the low 6.5 mark as compared to the 7.1 figure of the previous fiscal estimate.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) in a press conference revealed the first advance estimates of national income at a press conference earlier today in the national capital.

Also slowed performance of sectors including agriculture and manufacturing is being seen another reason behind the low figure.

The agriculture sector showed a low 2.1 per cent figure whereas it stood st 4.9 in the previous fiscal.

Also manufacturing stood at low 4.6 as compared to the previous figure of 7.9 per cent.

The low 6.5 per cent comes in the backdrop of an year following demonetization along with the new tax reform in the country.

Earlier different experts including SBI Research Chief Economist hinted that the figure is less likely to cross 7 per cent mark.

The government earlier made a prediction that the growth would continue at 6.7 per cent, however now the low data poses questions over the steps ahead of the upcoming budget 2018-19.
