Georgia Offers Untapped Opportunity For Indian Textile & Apparel Exports: Former FISME Chief

New Delhi, Nov 24 (KNN) Animesh Saxena, Past President and Central Executive Committee member, Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME), has identified Georgia as a promising market for India’s textile and apparel sector.

His remarks follow a high-level delegation visit to Georgia from 17–21 November 2025, in which he participated, where the Ministry of Textiles engaged in multi-sectoral discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in sericulture, textiles, apparel, and the carpet trade.

He noted, “India’s share in the Georgian market remains below 1 percent, with buyers largely sourcing from China, Turkey and other countries.”

“This reflects both a significant market gap and a lack of awareness among Georgian firms about India’s capabilities in textiles and apparel,” he added.

Saxena underscored the need for deeper engagement between industry stakeholders in both countries. 

To facilitate this, he said, “India has invited the Georgian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), the Georgian Apparel and Fashion Association (GAFA), and other representatives to Bharat Tex 2026 — a comprehensive exhibition showcasing the entire Indian textile value chain.”

The event, he added, “will offer the visiting delegation first-hand exposure to the breadth and competitiveness of India’s textile and apparel offerings.”

Saxena noted that a second phase of engagement could involve organising a Buyer-Seller Meet in Georgia, enabling local retailers to connect directly with Indian manufacturers after their visit to Bharat Tex. 

Such initiatives, he said, could open new business avenues and strengthen bilateral trade in the sector.
