New Delhi/ Mumbai, Mar 14 (KNN) The all India jewellers strike has been entered 12th day today calling for roll back of one per cent excise duty proposed in the Budget.

The Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Mohan Kundariya, visited the camp of protesting jewellers in Rajkot on Sunday where he assured them to discuss the matter with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Talking to KNN, the spokesperson of India Bullion and Jewellers Association of India, Ketan said that the Government has called them for a meeting which can take place in a day or two.

However, he said that the industry will stick to its demand.

He said that the jewellery traders would not settle for a mid-way solution as their demands are “genuine”.

On the other hand, the situation is worrisome as over 10-million skilled jewellery artisans and craftsmen across India, who get paid on a per-job basis have been hit badly due to the strike. Last week, a worker at a jewellery-making unit in Indore reportedly committed suicide due to financial distress. (KNN Bureau)
