Govt seeks suggestions for utilisation of unclaimed deposits in small savings schemes

Mumbai, Oct 10 (KNN) The National Savings Institute has issued a notification inviting suggestions/ideas on proper utilisation of deposits lying unclaimed in various Small Savings Schemes in Post Offices and banks for welfare and protection of financial interests of senior citizens.

The National Savings Institute is providing secretarial support to the Committee appointed by the Ministry of Finance to examine issues related to unclaimed amounts lying in various small savings schemes, RBI today said in a press release.

Harun R Khan, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India is the Chairman of this committee. The Committee, at its first meeting on September 26, 2014 decided to upload on the website of Reserve Bank of India, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Law, National Savings Institute, Department of Posts, State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank, a public notice inviting suggestions/ideas from general public/ senior citizens/welfare organisations and Non-Government Organisations associated with welfare of senior citizens on appropriate use of unclaimed amount.

The suggestions/ideas can be sent to the National Savings Institute by November 15, 2014.

National Savings Institute works under Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. The Institute is entrusted with the task of mobilization of savings in National Savings Schemes of Government of India, operated through Post Offices and selected branches of Banks throughout the country.
