Govt to kick off MUDRA campaigns across the country from Sept-25

New Delhi, Sept 24 (KNN)  To promote the Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) that was initiated in April this year to provide loans to micro and small units, the department of financial services is planning to organise credit campaigns across the country from September-25 to October-2, according to a media report.

“During the campaign the government aims at disbursing 25 lakh Shishu loans and the department has set a target of 25 Shishu loans per bank branch,” the Financial Express report said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch a mega state level campaign in Dumka on October-2.

Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency (MUDRA) has in place various products named 'Shishu', 'Kishor' and 'Tarun' to signify the stage of growth / development and funding needs of the beneficiary micro unit / entrepreneur and also provide a reference point for the next phase of graduation / growth to look forward to.

While Shishu covers loans upto Rs 50,000, Kishor covers loans above Rs 50,000 and upto Rs 5 lakh and Tarun covers loans above Rs 5 lakh and upto Rs 10 lakh.

As per government data, it would be ensured that at least 60 per cent of the credit flows to Shishu Category Units and the balance to Kishor and Tarun categories.

Against a target of Rs 1,22,118 crore for fiscal 2015-16, so far Rs 22,572 crore has been disbursed as on September 15 to 33.90 lakh borrowers, the media report said. 

Further, under Shishu loan, Rs 3,940 crore has been disbursed to 26.90 lakh borrowers, Kishor loan worth Rs 11,742 crore to 5.99 lakh borrowers and Tarun loan worth Rs 6,889 crore to one 1 lakh borrowers, it added.  (KNN Bureau)
