GST Anti-Profiteering in action, B.N Sharma to head the panel

New Delhi, Nov 29 (KNN) With the cabinet approving the Anti-profiteering authority under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Government recently appointed senior IAS officer B.N. Sharma, as the first Chairman of this apex Authority in the rank of Secretary to Government of India.

Ministry of Finance in a press statement informed of the recent appointment.

Prior to this responsibility, B.N. Sharma, is currently posted as Additional Secretary in the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

The release informed that Sharma has been closely associated with the formulation of GST and its implementation.

The Authority will be in action for a period of two years.

The Authority is to ensure passing benefits of input credit and the reduction in GST rates on specified goods or services are passed on to the consumers by way of a check reduction in prices.

Sharma would working along four senior officials of the rank of Joint Secretary and above, who have been appointed as Technical Members in the Authority. Including J.C. Chauhan, Chairman Tax Tribunal, Himachal Pradesh; Bijay Kumar, Principal Commissioner GST, Kolkata; C.L. Mahar, Principal Commissioner GST, Meerut; and R. Bhagyadevi, ADG, Systems, Chennai.

The appointment comes as a  recommendation of a high level Selection Committee headed by P.K. Sinha, Cabinet Secretary. Revenue Secretary, Chairman, CBEC and Chief Secretaries of States of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu were the other members of the Selection Committee, the release informed. (With PIB inputs) (KNN/DA)
