GST Council to meet today for first time since implementation; decisions on eWay bill, tax rate revisions expected

New Delhi, Aug 5 (KNN) With one month into the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the GST council will be meeting for the first time since the implementation of the new tax regime. E-Way bill, revision on tax rates are expected to be the key issues that will be raised by different representatives during the meeting.

The government has largely maintained that the roll-out of the goods and services tax has been smooth and the dedicated departments are facilitating the transition.

There have been demands by various sectors across the state regarding the tax rates.

Fabric and garments sector have sent representations seeking a lowering of tax rate to 5 per cent.

Likewise MSMEs in Punjab have requested exemption on the unorganized labour under the One Nation One Tax policy.

These concerns are likely to be tabled at the GST council meeting headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Also norms for the eWay bill is to be finalised at the GST council meet today. As per the proposed draft, the GST network would generate e-way bill, depending on the distance to be travelled on all goods that value more than 50,000 in values. (KNN/ DA)
