GST portal is live now

New Delhi, Nov 10 (KNN) After demonetizing Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes, a step which is considered as one of the biggest economic reforms in recent times, Government took another step towards reforming the way the country does business by launching a new and simpler portal for the incoming Goods and Services Tax regime.

The website will enable easy filing of returns and tax payments through credit/debit cards and other modes.

The work on software needed to run GST is currently on. GSTN made the www.gst.gov.in portal live for migrating existing taxpayers.

GSTN will test the software for integrating a series of state and central levies before the 'one market, one rate' tax model comes into being from April next year.

New registrations under GST will start from April 2017.

On the new portal, businessmen and traders who currently have to file separate returns for an array of indirect taxes like excise duty, service tax and VAT, will file a single monthly return and pay tax online through various payment cards, including credit and debit.

“Assessees with verified PAN shall be allowed to fill details & submit proofs. All the taxpayers registered under any of the Acts as specified viz. taxes which are subsumed, are expected to visit the GST System Portal and enroll themselves,” an MSME entrepreneur aware of the details told KNN.

Before enrolling with GST System Portal, one must have the documents such as Provisional ID received from State/Central Authorities; Password received from the State/Central Authorities; Valid Email Address; Valid Mobile Number; Bank Account Number and more, he added.
