GST proving instrumental for the economy, added 27 Lakh taxpayers to mainstream: PM Modi

New Delhi, Oct 23 (KNN) Responding to the criticism regarding to the newly implemented Goods and Services Tax, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the new taxation is a part of the economic reforms that the government intends to bring in the country and the reforms would continue.

Citing statistics, PM Modi said that over 27 lakh new citizens have now joined the mainstream with the coming of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Assuring the businesses of not fearing of the inspector raj, the Prime Minister said that the government would not at all dig out the old records of the businesses.

There if no directive issues that allows a tax officer to prosecute any businessman on the basis of the previous tax records, therefore there is no reason to worry, the Prime Minister added.

Commenting on the ease facilitated due to the new taxation, PM Modi said that earlier along the road routes, the trucks had to wait for hours to get clearances.

But with the coming of the GST, there is smooth movement along the routes and there is less corruption due to elimination of check posts that used to exist in the previous tax regime, the Prime Minister added.
