While President of India, Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the celebrations, Union Minister for Commerce, Industry and Textiles Anand Sharma and Minister of State in the Commerce Ministry D Purandeswari will be guests of honour, according to a press release.
The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of sculpture ‘Wings of Wisdom’ by the President. Designed by Gagan Vij, it symbolises the spirit of freedom; the knowledge to scale success in life; and the path to spirituality. The statue holding a book in its hand and stacking a number of books on its wings further epitomises that only through wisdom students will be able to fulfil their goals in life.
Also, a commemorative volume of Foreign Trade Review (FTR), a quarterly journal published by IIFT will be released on the occasion, featuring articles by leaders of the country. The 47 year old journal which has contributed to international trade has been dedicated to all the policy makers, professionals and academicians who contributed to the success of the publication.
Over the years IIFT has started various centres - Centre for SME studies in 2005, Centre for Latin American studies in 1971, Centre for International Trade in Technology in 2001 and Centre for WTO Studies in 2002.
The Centre for SME Studies at IIFT provides continuous support to the SME sector by carrying out training programmes, business intelligence services through a databank and acting as a catalyst for interfacing with other associated institutions.
The SME Centre reinforces IIFT’s basic philosophy of integrating research and training for the benefit of the SMEs with a special focus on internationalisation of SMEs. It plays a pivot role of knowledge partner in all its activities to provide and disseminate the latest developments affecting the sector.
In the pipeline are plans to start additional centres in the area of energy, power and financial services. (KNN)
