India and Mauritius co-host business conference

New Delhi, Jul 3 (KNN)  The Commerce and Industry Minister, Anand Sharma today left for a two-day visit to Mauritius to attend the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) Economic and Business Conference.

"Deepening Economic Linkages for Balanced, Inclusive and Sustainable Growth," is the theme of the ministerial-level conference, to be held from July 4-5, 2013.

The theme of this conference reflects the mandate of IOR-ARC in a world where countries face common challenges of food security, unemployment, depleting water resources and climate change.

India is the current chair of the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC).  

Ministers from 20 member countries will attended the event, accompanied by policy makers, businessmen and captains of industry.

Countries represented at the event include Australia, Bangladesh, Comoros, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Six dialogue partner States such as China, Egypt, France, Japan, UK and USA will attend the meeting. In fact, eighteen IOR-ARC trade ministers have confirmed their participation at the conference.

Sharma would be meeting Parliamentary Vice Minister for Economy Trade and Industry, Japan Taira Masaaki, Australian Trade Minister Richard Marles, and Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mauritius Sayyad Abd-Al-Cader Sayed Hossen.

He would also have bilateral meetings with ministers from different countries on the sidelines of the conference. (KNN)
