New Delhi, Sept 16 (KNN) At the world renowned engineering and technology fair, Hannover Messe 2015, India is set to be the partner country, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will seek global investors to set up their manufacturing base in different Indian states under the ‘Make India’ campaign of the NDA Government.

“Accepting the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel for India to be the partner country at Hannover Messe 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at the world renowned engineering and technology fair beginning April 12, 2015 conveying to the global investors a welcome message to set up their manufacturing base in different Indian states under the ‘Make India’ campaign of the NDA Government,” lead agency for the event EEPC India said today.

While the government has decided to accept the invitation to become the partner country at the Hannover Messe, a formal MoU will be signed on September 22 here between high level dignitaries of the countries in the presence of Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Marc Siemering representing the Deutsche Messe.

The Hannover Fair attracts footfall of about two lakh senior business leaders, technology heads, industrial scientists and top policy makers from all over the world discussing and forging serious collaborations.

About 300 Indian engineering companies including the public sector giants will be participating in the five – day fair seeking technology collaborations, business tie-ups and showcasing their capabilities to be the world supplier of high-tech goods and specialised services.

“It is really a great honour for India to be given the status of Partner Country at such a prestigious event. Prime Minister’s presence there for two days – April 12 and April 13 will lend a huge stature to the Indian presence there. The EEPC, as the lead agency for the Indian participation, will work hard with the Commerce Ministry and the Indian Embassy in Berlin to ensure a grand success of our participation and leave an imprint of the ‘Make in India’ campaign of the Prime Minister,” EEPC India Chairman Anupam Shah said.

India had earlier become the partner country at the Hannover Messe in 2006 when the then Indian Prime Minister was received by the German Chancellor.

With USD 21 billion bilateral engagement, Germany is India’s sixth largest trading partner. The engagement is in the areas of mechanical engineering, automobiles, chemicals, services, nuclear reactors, construction and development. However, when it comes to receiving foreign direct investment, the inflows of about USD six billion into Indian economy from Germany between 2000 and 2014 are far less than the potential.

“That will remain our focus to try and win global investors to bring in FDI into India and set up their manufacturing base for their global supply chain,” the EEPC Chairman said.

Garments and textile products, chemical products, leather and leather goods, iron, steel and metal goods, electronic components, electrical components, pharmaceutical products, and auto components are major items of exports from India to Germany.

The key German exports to India include electrical generation equipment, auto equipment, complete fabrication plants, bearings, gear equipment, measurement and control equipment, primary chemical products, synthetic material, machine tools, aircrafts and iron and steel sheets, etc.

India and Germany agreed to prepare a roadmap for cooperation in skill development, solid waste management and cleaning of rivers.

During 2013-14, India’s total trade in engineering goods with Germany was USD 11.23 billion, whereas exports were USD 2.38 billion and Imports were USD 8.84 billion. (KNN/SD)
