Irregularities-poor maintenance of GST portal hindering transition into new tax regime: CAIT

New Delhi, Nov 3 (KNN) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has asked for inquiry against Infosys and other companies for poor maintenance of online Goods and Services Tax (GST) Portal  portal saying that it is resulting in hurdles for the transition into the new tax regime.

Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of the CAIT in a press interview said that a good taxation system like GST has earned a bad image due to the portal not only among the trading community but among all stakeholders. He added that the only way to file GST returns is through the portal and it’s crucial that it works well for everyone.

He informed that in 2015 Infosys was awarded contract worth Rs 1,380 crore to build and maintain the technology network of GST. According to Infosys 2.26 crores returns have been filed and 1.4 crore payment transactions have been conducted on the GST portal till 31 October. The system witnessed a lot of load on last two days of GST filling but the servers managed the load very well.
Prakash Kumar, the chief executive of the GST Network (GSTN) said that the online portal is stable because in a three month period, 64.41 lakh taxpayers have been migrated to the system and 2.26 crore returns have been filed.

CAIT has also asked the government to release a white paper on the status of the portal and has also demanded a third party audit into the technical issues. (KNN/AG)
