ITR & Audit Deadline Extended: November 10 for Audit Reports, December 10 for ITR

New Delhi, Oct 30 (KNN) In a major relief for taxpayers, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced an extension of key deadlines for filing income tax returns and audit reports for the Assessment Year (AY) 2025–26.

The due date for furnishing the Return of Income under Section 139(1) of the Income-tax Act, 1961—originally 31st October 2025—has been extended to 10th December 2025, the CBDT stated in a notification issued on Wednesday.

This extension applies to assessees covered under clause (a) of Explanation 2 to sub-section (1) of Section 139, which typically includes companies and entities required to get their accounts audited.

Similarly, the “specified date” for furnishing the audit report for the Previous Year 2024–25, which had earlier been extended from 30th September 2025 to 31st October 2025, has now been further extended to 10th November 2025.

The extension is expected to provide additional compliance time to taxpayers, professionals, and businesses amid ongoing reporting and filing pressures. 

The CBDT is expected to issue a detailed circular in due course to formalize the announcement.
