Let's focus on niche hi-tech areas: BHEL chief

New Delhi, Nov 11 (KNN)  Chairman and Managing Director of power equipment major, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), B Prasada Rao has said that Indian manufacturing needs to focus on niche areas of high technology and high value added to compete with China which has become a manufacturing shop of entire world. BHEL does a considerable amount of outsourcing from the MSME sector.
 
“China has already taken up the lead… it has become manufacturing shop of the entire world, but there are some niche areas I believe… high technology manufacturing. High value added manufacturing could be one area to focus for Indians because skills are very high (among Indians)”, Rao said during a recent national conference on “Accelerating Technology Innovation for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth” here.
 
He said though Indians have skills, they need to improve eco system for further development. “I believe we have skills for development but eco system should be there to deploy the same”.
 
Rao said creating energy efficient equipment is important for the people in the country. It plays a very important role in manufacturing.
 
He also emphasised on how the Multi-National Corporations in the country are utilising Indian skills to develop technology. He said MNCs have formed the technology sourcing centres in Chennai, Bengaluru, Gurgaon and Noida.  (KNN/ST)
