Mumbai, May 27 (KNN) Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is keen to revive the Navi Mumbai Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to enhance growth, export and generate employment.

Fadnavis has said that the first meeting of officials and stakeholders have taken place. The details are still being worked out,” the CM said, reports media.

“In this regard, I had called a meeting recently and we had asked promoters whether they were still interested in the project and if not, we have decided to revive the project on our own by taking back the land,” Fadnavis said.

“The government has an open mind on the Navi Mumbai SEZ project. CIDCO already has 35 per cent stake in the project,” Fadnavis said.

The chief minister said several SEZ projects across the country have been idle due to various reasons, but “if any one particular SEZ has a chance to be revived, then it is the Navi Mumbai SEZ, considering its proximity to ports”.

CM said, “If the promoters are not interested, the state government will take back the land and build the SEZ on its own.”

Fadnavis spoke about reviving the Navi Mumbai SEZ at a meeting of the Maharashtra Economic Development Council on Monday. (KNN Bureau)
