Manufacturing declines by 1.2% in first quarter of 2013-14

New Delhi, Aug 30 (KNN) Indian manufacturing has declined by 1.2 per cent during the first quarter (April-June) of 2013-14 as compared to 0.8 per cent in the same period last year.

“Mining, manufacturing and electricity, registered growth of -4.5 per cent, -1.2 per cent and 3.5 per cent, respectively during first quarter of 2013-14, as compared to the growth rates of -1.6 per cent, -0.8 per cent and 6.4 per cent during the first quarter of 2012-13,” said Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation today.

Further, India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter grew by 4.4 per cent over the corresponding quarter of previous year, it said here.

The economic activities which have registered significant growth in the first quarter this year are ‘financing, insurance, real-estate and business services’ at 8.9 per cent and ‘community, social and personal services’ at 9.4 per cent.

The growth rates in other economic activities such as trade, hotels, transport and communication stood at 3.9 per cent.

Further, in case of electricity, gas and water supply it recorded 3.7 per cent growth while construction stood at 2.8 per cent.

The sale of commercial vehicles, cargo handled at major ports and by the civil aviation registered decline by 8.1 per cent, 1.0 per cent and 2.1 per cent respectively during the first quarter of 2013-14 over 2012-13. (KNN/GUNJ)
