Manufacturing in India yet to get the boost: Parliamentary Committee

New Delhi, Aug 4 (KNN) Raising concerns over the not so good numbers from the manufacturing sector in the country, the Parliamentary Standing Committee said that the sector is still waiting for the necessary boost to accelerate.

The Parliamentary Committee headed by BJP MP Bhupender Yadav raised concerns over the performance of the sector in the country.

The statistics reveal that the manufacturing sector in the country registered a growth of 1.6 per cent in the last five years. Also the sector registered a contraction of 0.5 per cent during the first nine months of the current fiscal.

The MP however appreciated the various initiatives of the government including Make in India and Startup India that aims to facilitate growth. Despite the programs and policies in place, the sector isn’t performing its best, the committee observed.

Earlier the Commerce and Industry ministry informed the house about the different programs being carried out by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) to facilitate business friendly environment in the country.

The Ministry listed the various flagship projects of the government including Make in India, Startup India, revision in FDI norms for the sector. (KNN/ DA)
