New Delhi, Oct 21 (KNN)  Important issues relating to motor vehicles including rationalizing of taxes on taxis and overloading of trucks will be discussed at the meeting of the Transport Development Council (TDC) here on October-23.

The 35th meeting is scheduled to be held under the chairmanship of Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Oscar Fernandes.

The agenda in the meeting will include recommendations of the Official Committee set up for Rationalization of Motor Vehicle Taxes to levy lifetime tax at floor rate of 6 per cent of the sale price before Value Added Tax (VAT) on light motor vehicles.

The government may introduce National Permit System for buses on lines of goods transport vehicles. Levy of multiple taxes, such as Entry Tax, Mechanical Tax, Service Tax etc. by the state governments would also be discussed.

The decision will affect the transportation sector particularly the small operators including taxi drivers, tempo owners and commuters. (KNN/ST)
