New FTP to be different from earlier policies, says Sitharaman

New Delhi, Sept 10 (KNN) The soon to be announced new Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) for 2014-19 will be different from the earlier policies, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharam said today.

Addressing a press conference on completion of 100 days of NDA government, Sitharaman said, "Very soon the FTP will be unveiled. I can give you a broad idea, but not intrinsic details. Whatever was the structure of earlier FTPs, it would be different from that.” 

“FTP (2014-19) is on the anvil, which would include strategy, goals, road maps and timeframe for increasing exports. This would be comprehensive and composite, focussing on: products which are winners and potential winners, targeted global engagements, branding and packaging measures etc,” Commerce Ministry said in a release.

The country’s exports stood at USD 300.4 billion in 2012-13 and USD 307 billion in 2011-12.

Services sector contributes about 55 per cent to the country's gross domestic product. During May, services exports were about USD 14 billion. 

During April-June period of the current fiscal, exports grew 9.31 per cent to USD 80.11 billion. 

India's exports in 2013-14 were worth USD 312.35 billion, lower than the targeted USD 325 billion.

Meanwhile, Trade Secretary Rajeev Kher told reporters that the new FTP is likely to be unveiled end-September. (KNN/SD)
