New Delhi, Dec 23 (KNN) The Minister of State (I/C) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Giriraj Singh said that the number of taxpayers have increased in the time period following demonetization in the country.

Also commenting over the Net direct tax collection, the Minister said that in the financial year 2017-18, up to November 2017, the amount stood at 4.8 lakh crore as compared to the previous data of 4.20 crores.

The Minister informed of the data in a tweet from his official twitter handle.

Singh said that the number of taxpayers have increased from 3.25 crores to 3.89 crores.

Singh’s tweet comes after the Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla informed the Lok Sabha of the statistics.

"During the current financial year (up to November 7), 3.89 crore income-tax e-returns were filed as compared to 3.25 crore e-returns filed during corresponding period of the last financial year, which translates into a growth rate of 19.5 per cent," Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
