Parliamentary panel invites comments on NID Bill

New Delhi, Apr 9 (KNN)  The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce has invited comments from the public on a bill which seeks to grant ‘institution of national importance’ status to the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.

The National Institute of Design Bill, 2013 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on March-11 and referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP, Shanta Kumar for further inspection, said an official notification.

Established in 1961 as an autonomous body, NID has been internationally acclaimed as one of the finest educational and research institutions in industrial, communication, textiles, and IT integrated design. 

Significantly, once the status is given to NID, it would serve as a corporate body permitted to nurture and promote quality and excellence in design education.  It would be authorised conduct research and training in all disciplines of design and confer honorary degrees, diplomas, certificates, award and other academic distinctions and titles.  (KNN)
