Petrol-Diesel price hit record ‘high’, transporters expresses concern

New Delhi, Apr 2 (KNN) The price of Petrol and Diesel hit a record high with petrol touching a four-year surge and diesel registering all-time high due to change in global demand, following which transporters have expressed concern.

The prices of non-branded petrol were raised by 10-11 paise per litre in different metro cities today while diesel prices were increased by 11-12 paise according to a news report.

Talking to KNN, Naveen Kumar Gupta, Secretary General of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) said that the unstable fuel price have been a concern for transporters since long and the sector have been urging government to come up with a framework that could stabilize it.

“While the fuel price keep changing every other day, the freight charge has to remain constant, how does a transporter earn profit for himself in such a scenario”, Gupta said.

Citing an instance Gupta said that a truck starts from Delhi to Chennai with an agreed cost of shipment between the consignee and the consigner. It takes almost 12 days to complete the route, while on the way the fuel price changes, making it difficult for the operator to absorb the price shock.

“We have made several representations to government in this regard, we also urged to bring petrol and diesel under GST net, yet there is no positive hearing in the direction so far”, he added. (KNN/DA)
