New Delhi, Jul 8 (KNN)  In the wake of slowdown in industrial growth and rupee depreciation, causing havoc with the economy, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for a meeting with top industry leaders on July-29.

Since the small and medium enterprises are bearing the maximum brunt of the slowdown, it is felt among them that their issues should also come up in the meeting.
“The Prime Minister will meet the captains of Industry on 29 July to review steps to revive the economy,” said an official notification.

Among the topics to be discussed are measures to correct the current account deficit as also measures to revive industrial growth, according to an official notification.

The dismal performance of the rupee is another cause for concern and so its impact on trade and industry will also figure in the discussion.

As skill shortage has plagued the industry in the recent past, the issue would be covered so as to find ways of accelerating skill development.

Yet another area that would be addressed is the development of industrial corridors: the Delhi - Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC), and the Amritsar-Delhi-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (ADKIC).

MSMEs contribute to 17 per cent of the GDP and generate 800 million jobs.  Further they contribute to 45 per cent of the country’s industrial output and 36 per cent of the total exports.  (KNN)
