New Delhi, June 24 (KNN) In the backdrop of slackening pace of the infrastructure projects in different sectors like roads, ports, airports and power, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has convened a meeting of senior ministers on Friday, June 28.

The meeting will be attended by Ministers of Railways, Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Civil Aviation, Power and Coal.

“The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the targets to be achieved in these infrastructure sectors for the year 2013-14 and finalise them,” an official statement said here today.

While, the Planning Commission has set up various targets for infrastructure projects, the performance has been less than satisfactory in most of the areas- be it roads, power plants or ports.

The reasons for the lackadaisical progress in the infrastructure sector vary from regulatory issues to risk aversion by the investors.

The Prime Minister had followed the same practice last year in which a meeting was held on the targets for 2012-13, which were then finalized and announced. (KNN)
