PMO to meet top officials from Commerce & Finance Ministries to discuss issue of GST refund to exporters

New Delhi, Mar 12 (KNN) The Prime Minister’s Office is likely to meet the top officials of Commerce and Finance Ministries today to discuss the issue of GST refunds stuck to the exporters.

The exporters of the country have claimed that 70% of their refunds were stuck even after eight months of the roll-out of Goods & Services Tax (GST) across the country.

During the meeting discussions would be held to assess the impact of delay in refund process on exports and manufacturing.

Exporters had been complaining that the delay had blocked their working capital.

Meanwhile, the revenue department has been saying that there were discrepancies between forms submitted by exporters to the customs department and those to the GST Network which has caused the delay.

The claims of about Rs 10,000 crore are reportedly stuck due to discrepancies in the information furnished by exporters to GST Network (GSTN) through forms like GSTR 1 or Table 6A or GSTR 3B, and the shipping bills filed with the Customs.

Further, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has said that the revenue authorities will set up camps across the country for a fortnight beginning March 15 in order to facilitate refunds to the exporters. (KNN Bureau)
