Public should freely use notes they have rather than holding them: SS Mundra

New Delhi, Dec 13 (KNN) Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor R Gandhi today said Rs 12.4 lakh crore of old notes have been deposited in banks till December 10 out of Rs 4.61 lakh crore issued by the RBI from November 10-December 10, 2016.

Banks have issued Rs 4.61 lakh crore to public since Nov 8-9 through ATMs and bank counters, said RBI.

The old notes returned bank to RBI and currency chests is Rs 12.44 lakh crore as of December 10, 2016.

Gandhi said the Reserve Bank has been printing "more and more" notes to ease the cash crunch but he did not give update on the figure.

Public are requested to freely use notes they have rather than holding them, said Gandhi. (KNN Bureau)
