Rajiv Kher to be new Commerce Secretary

New Delhi, Jan 15 (KNN) Rajiv Kher has been appointed as new  Commerce Secretary with the Cabinet Committee on Appointments clearing appointments of some new secretaries and giving short extension to others.
 
Kher replaces S R Rao who will retire from January 31, 2014. Kher was earlier the Special Secretary in the Department of Commerce.
 
The new Commerce Secretary who has spent a long time in the Commerce Ministry is well-versed with India’s bilateral and multilateral trade issues.  He has handled important assignments of dealing with the WTO matters as also on business relations with the neighbouring countries.
 
Meanwhile, J Sathyanarayana, has been given extension as Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology upto the date of his superannuation – April 30, 2014.
 
S S Garbyal, will be Director General (Forests) and Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests.  (KNN Bureau)
