Red sandalwood export relaxed somewhat

New Delhi, Oct 25 (KNN) The government has relaxed prohibition on export of Red Sanders (a variety of sandalwood) in log form for export of 9784.1363 tones through Government of Andhra Pradesh and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

“Government of Andhra Pradesh is hereby permitted to export 8584.1363 MTs of Red Sanders wood in log form, either by itself or through any entity/entities so authorized by them for the purpose”, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.  

The DGFT also said such entity/entities or Government of Andhra Pradesh would be granted export authorization by the concerned Regional Authority of DGFT.  Besides, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has been permitted to export 1200 tonnes of Red Sanders wood in log form, either by itself or through any entity/entities so authorized.

The modalities including allocation of quantities to various entities for export of the respective quantities will be finalized by the state government and the DRI. Red Sanders is a species of sandalwood which is found in south India.  (KNN Bureau/PC)
