Rupee Undervaluation Presents Opportunity For Investors: CEA

New Delhi, Apr 24 (KNN) India’s rupee is “fundamentally undervalued,” Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran said, noting that current levels offer an attractive entry point for long-term investors.

“For long-term investors, the rupee’s current valuation provides an attractive entry point,” Nageswaran said, Bloomberg reported citing an interview Thursday.

The rupee has come under pressure this week amid rising crude prices, with Brent crude crossing USD 100 per barrel. It fell 0.3 per cent to Rs 94.11 against the dollar on Thursday, reversing gains seen after recent measures by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to curb speculative bets.

The currency is the worst-performing in Asia so far in 2026, extending last year’s decline, as Middle East tensions disrupt energy supplies—critical for India, a major importer.

Capital Outflows Add Pressure

Heavy foreign outflows from equities have further weakened the rupee, with exits earlier this month exceeding last year’s record annual outflow of USD 18.79 billion.
