New Delhi, Feb 19 (KNN)  The total sales turnover of Indian pharmaceutical products, which are largely generic amounted to about Rs 1,20,000 crore in 2012-13.

This was stated by the Minister for Chemicals and fertilizers, Srikant Kumar Jena in parliament yesterday.

According to him, the Indian Pharmaceutical market comprises mostly of generic medicines and the patented medicines have no generic versions.

He said that a Price Negotiation mechanisms Committee was set up for patented drugs. The Committee’s report was put on the public domain for wider publicity, inviting comments from stakeholders.

Further, observing the diverse opinions of different stakeholders which the government has received, an Inter-ministerial Committee of Joint Secretaries has been formed to look into the issues and to suggest ways and means to fix the prices of patented drugs in the country.  (KNN/ES)
